Christiane Schmidt is a cinematographer and filmmaker living in Berlin. She studied art and political science in Oldenburg before graduating from University of Television and Film Munich. Her film Pădurea e ca muntele, vezi? was co-directed with Didier Guillain and portrays the Roma family Lingurar in their daily survival inside a village close to the Romanian Carpathians. It premiered in the Berlinale Forum and has been shown internationally. The film Neighbors was realized together with Pary El-Qalqili, and examines over two years the social environments of twelve refugee accommodations amid a spate of attacks by arsonists in various German towns. She is currently working on the film Białowieża, taking place at the Polish-Belarusan border alongside activists and ecologists who enact survival strategies against the violence of border regimes.
